What can you do in the Secure ID Beta?
Dec 25: Email Beta I
- Email Beta I is a closed invite only beta. If you'd like to join the next beta sign up here.
- During this beta Secure ID is Free to use
- You can setup unlimited email addresses, each with a dedicated mailbox
Limitations
- During the beta there may be bugs, we strongly encourage you to not yet use Secure ID contacts for critical third party providers like banking or government services
- Email addresses can only receive email, no sending is available.
- For now these email addresses are only intended for communication with third party providers who typically send from noreply@ addresses. In future we plan to add support for private email contacts and two way communication functionality.
- Email addresses are limited to max 2 per provider, e.g. no more than 2 facebook accounts. This prevents abuse.
- Email is only stored for 30 days on Secure ID. There is a function to forward selected emails to your primary inbox if you want to keep them long term.
- The idea is that 95% of messages from third party services are not data that needs to be stored forever and continually bloat the information about you online. By encouraging users to only keep important emails this saves energy & resources + it saves you money in the long run paying for storage plans when your primary inbox reaches limits. Clutter is kept out of your primary inbox saving you focus.
- That being said the choice is entirely yours. You can always forward emails to your primary inbox to keep them, and we will add functionality to enable auto-forwarding in future.
- Email Beta I only supports plain text emails. If you need full-html functionality to e.g. press buttons you must also forward the email to your primary inbox.
- There are no account settings options in Email Beta I, contact us if you want to change account level details, e.g. display name, primary email address.
Planned soon:
- Display of rich HTML content in emails
- Browser extension that lets you generate new Secure ID email addresses directly on the sign up/account settings page of a provider
- Browser extension will first be available for chrome based browsers
- Auto forwarding of emails to your primary email account (if you do want to keep all of them)
